Zirnis has amazing experience, as he has played for countless clubs, right from FK Flaminko Jūrmala, Baltika Kvadrāts Riga, Pārdaugava, down to the Kvadrāts Riga.

Zirnis played his maiden game for his national football team of Latvia, which took place on 19th August, 1997 against Azerbaijan, and ended as a 0-0 draw.

He has also played for the national Latvian team in a match against Turkey, played in November 2003, which lasted for more than 2 legs. Though he did not score in this match, he actively assisted his side in qualifying for the finals of the UEFA Euro 2004 championship, and this was the first time that the national Latvian side had entered the finals of the prestigious UEFA Cup tournament.

Though he is a cool customer, he lost his temper against Lithuania in the Baltic Cup final, held on 22 May, 2005 in Kaunas.
